Speaking to the media, Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith revealed that the Catholic Church is looking into the government's proposed anti-terrorism legislation. The draft law is set to replace the existing Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).

He explained that lawyers and legal experts are reviewing the provisions carefully. Their main aim is to detect any shortcomings or issues that need attention.

Call for changes in education

Cardinal Ranjith also commented on the country's education system, saying schooling must move beyond mere textbooks and classroom sessions. He noted that the true goal of education is to shape better human beings who can handle tough life challenges.

According to him, schools must nurture good character, teach kids to make responsible decisions, and build their confidence to face life's obstacles.
