A team from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka soon. Their goal is to share knowledge on party organisation and internal discipline directly with members of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP).
The visit was planned during talks between JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva and Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Wei Huaxiang. The meeting took place on Thursday (5) at the JVP headquarters located in Pelawatte.
Focus on party discipline
According to Silva, the discussion centred around outcomes from the fifth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, which took place in China on October 29.
The Ambassador outlined how the Chinese party maintains firm internal discipline and bolsters its organisational structure. A visiting CCP team will soon offer more details on these approaches directly to JVP members, Silva stated.
Bilateral cooperation discussed
Beyond party matters, the meeting covered broader ties between Sri Lanka and China. They discussed boosting cooperation in transport, investment, technology, healthcare, education, and culture. Silva noted that Ambassador Wei pledged China's ongoing support across these areas.
Silva thanked China for aiding Sri Lanka's economic and technological growth, pointing out the long ties between the JVP and the CCP. Chinese Embassy officials Counsellor Mei Jing, Head of the Political Section Qin Ligong, Second Secretary Jin Enze, and official Li Jiani also took part in the Pelawatte talks.
What happens next
A CCP delegation is expected to visit Sri Lanka to explain their policies and share experiences on party organisation and discipline with JVP members.
