The Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court has ordered two individuals to remain in custody until November 12. Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama made the decision today (05), Ada Derana reported.
The first suspect and the eighth suspect were produced in court by prison officers. Both were held regarding claims that Rs. 190 billion was illegally moved to other countries under the pretext of importing goods into Sri Lanka.
FCID fights bail
Officers of the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) objected to bail for both suspects during proceedings today.
Investigators explained they are working to secure final assessment reports and critical paperwork linked to the import and export dealings so they can place them before the court.
Authorities are also taking statements from people who helped set up the companies and run their operations, with deeper inquiries underway into the direct roles of the first and eighth suspects.
Eye on bank officers
The FCID also told the magistrate that they are looking into whether bank officials had connections to the businesses named in the inquiry. Those findings and statements will also be handed over to court.
What happens next
The Chief Magistrate will decide on the bail application on November 12, until which date both suspects will remain remanded.
