With the Deepavali festival taking place tomorrow (08), officials have announced a special school break on next Monday (09). This holiday applies to all Tamil-medium schools in the Central, Uva, Western, and Sabaragamuwa provinces.
The move comes after a special request made by Sundaralingam Pradeep, the Deputy Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure. Following this appeal, the Governors of the four provinces gave directions to their Provincial Directors of Education.
Classes to be covered on Saturday
Students and teachers will not be missing out on their lessons, however. Authorities noted that academic work for these schools will take place as usual on Saturday (14) to cover for the holiday given on Monday.
What happens next
Academic activities at these Tamil-medium schools will be conducted as usual on Saturday (14) to compensate for the special holiday granted on Monday.
