Mercedes-Benz has taken note of how fast Chinese car manufacturers roll out new models. Now, the German luxury brand is betting on artificial intelligence to slash its own timelines.
The Power of PLM.AI
The company has introduced PLM.AI, a digital platform connecting vehicle development, purchasing, manufacturing, sales and after-sales services.
Mercedes says this system could trim car development timelines by up to 30 percent. Efficiency in specific engineering tasks could rise by as much as 50 percent, while the need for physical tests could drop by up to 50 percent through digital simulations.
The automaker confirmed that human engineers will still make the final calls, ensuring quality and safety standards are kept intact.
“What is obviously outstanding is the speed of developing in a way that the customer really... in terms of customer focus. Competition is good. It's good for the customer. On the one hand, I have a lot of respect. On the other hand, we also have self-confidence that we can compete with these guys in China but also in Europe,”Jorg Burzer
