Russian President Vladimir Putin will not be making the journey to Britain for the upcoming G20 summit. UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham stated this is due to existing British sanctions against the Russian leader, The Economist reported on Thursday.
When questioned directly if Putin would receive an invite, Burnham simply responded: "No."
Sanctions block the visit
According to The Economist, Burnham explained that Putin could not and would not be "disinvited" because Russia remains a member of the G20. However, the Prime Minister made it clear that the Russian leader will not attend because of an outstanding sanction.
Britain began rolling out sanctions against Putin from 2022. Burnham's office did not offer any extra comments regarding these measures.

Summit plans in Manchester
Next year's annual G20 gathering is set to happen in November in Manchester, located in northwestern England, where Burnham previously served as mayor.
Host nations usually invite leaders from all member countries of the bloc. Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted in September that Washington had invited Putin to a December G20 meeting in Miami to connect with President Donald Trump and other world leaders.
What happens next
Next year's annual G20 summit will be held in November in the city of Manchester.
