A shocking security incident unfolded right outside the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Amman at around 12:20 p.m. today. A sharp object was used in the violent assault, leading to the tragic death of Corporal Jawad Ali Khalaf Al-Salaita while on duty, according to Jordan's Public Security Directorate (PSD).

The embassy confirmed that its entire staff along with members of the Sri Lankan community living in Jordan are completely unharmed.

Suspect arrested at the scene

A police patrol rushed in immediately to control the situation. Officers overpowered and arrested the attacker right at the location. During the struggle, the patrol's commanding officer sustained facial injuries and had to be admitted to the hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable.

Initial findings by the PSD reveal that the suspect deliberately targeted security personnel. The Jordanian authorities have officially treated the incident as an act of terrorism.
