A special discussion is underway with Colombo Mayor Vraie Cally Balthazaar and representatives from main government bodies. The talks aim to find immediate solutions to flood issues across the city after heavy rains hit on Friday evening.

Drainage and Canal Systems Under Review

The meeting is giving attention to improving the local drainage setup. Officials are also looking into problems affecting the canal network and road infrastructure in Colombo.

According to the Mayor, the drainage system in Colombo was built to handle around 30mm of rain. However, 129mm of rainfall battered the city in just a few hours on Friday, triggering widespread flooding and disruption.
