A brand new programme has been initiated by the Ministry of Science and Technology to give a helping hand to local entrepreneurs.

The inaugural centre was officially opened on Wednesday (04) at the Vidatha Resource Centre, which is located inside the Mirigama Divisional Secretariat premises. Minister of Science and Technology Chrishantha Abeysena did the honours.

According to the Ministry, the main goal is to deliver modern technical support to micro and small-scale business owners who are struggling with limited resources.

Big plans across the country

This is just the beginning of a nationwide plan. Under the first phase, authorities expect to set up 25 Mini Incubation Centres at selected Vidatha Resource Centres, spanning all districts in Sri Lanka.

Around 2,500 entrepreneurs are expected to benefit from this effort, with Rs. 100.9 million allocated for implementation in 2026.

Support for food producers

The new facility in Mirigama focuses heavily on food producers. It will provide access to modern machinery and facilities for hygienic food processing, packaging and labelling.

The move is expected to raise the quality and standards of local products and open up broader market opportunities for small businesses.
