A relaxing dip in the sea turned dangerous for a foreign visitor down south. A 44-year-old Irish tourist got caught in strong currents while bathing at Mirissa Beach on Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, the sea current dragged the tourist away from the shoreline, putting the swimmer in serious trouble.

Swift Action By Lifeguards

Officers attached to the Kotawila Police Life Saving Unit reacted immediately to the emergency. They managed to reach the tourist in time and brought the individual back to safety.

Police confirmed that five officers took part in the rescue mission, including Sub-Inspector Mendis. The officers also gave first aid to the Irish national right after the rescue.
