In her official Deepavali message, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya shared reflections on the festival of lights. She noted that it represents the victory of good over evil and light conquering darkness, carrying deep spiritual purity.

She explained that just as people light oil lamps to brighten their homes, the sacred day offers a chance to clear out negative feelings like hatred, jealousy, and ignorance from people's hearts.

Call for national solidarity

Dr. Harini Amarasuriya emphasized that in a diverse country like Sri Lanka, Deepavali serves as a crucial moment to build mutual understanding, peace, and togetherness among all communities.

She urged everyone to reinforce cultural ties and unite as one single nation, looking beyond all religious and ethnic divisions.

To mark the occasion, she sent warm greetings to Hindu devotees in Sri Lanka and all over the world, wishing them joy, peace, good health, and abundance.

“Deepavali, which symbolizes the light over darkness and good over evil, is a festival imbued with spiritual purity.Just as the lighting of oil lamps illuminates our homes, this sacred occasion offers us a valuable opportunity to dispel the darkness of hatred, jealousy and ignorance within our hearts, and to kindle the lamps of wisdom and compassion.”Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya
