A consultant surgeon attached to the Polonnaruwa General Hospital tragically lost his life following an accident on the main road connecting Minneriya and Habarana this afternoon (06).

The deceased has been identified as Specialist Surgeon Dr Rohana Gamage, a resident of Polonnaruwa New Town.

How the accident happened

According to the police, the collision occurred in the 7th Post area along the road.

At the time of the incident, the car driven by the doctor was travelling from Minneriya towards Habarana. It collided head-on with a tipper truck loaded with sand heading in the opposite direction, from Habarana towards Minneriya.
