Wet weather is set to intensify across Sri Lanka. In a forecast issued at 4PM on November 6, the Department of Meteorology stated that widespread thundershowers and heavy rains exceeding 75 mm are expected over the coming 36 hours.

Most regions can expect rain or thundershowers after 1PM. Fairly heavy downpours topping 75 mm are predicted in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, and North-Western provinces, along with Galle and Matara districts.

Morning conditions and safety warnings

The Northern and Eastern provinces may experience showers or thundershowers during the morning hours. Meanwhile, misty conditions will likely prevail in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Uva provinces early in the day.

The public has been urged to take necessary precautions against hazards caused by lightning and temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.

Warning for the deep seas

In a separate update, the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre sent out a special weather bulletin for deep-sea areas in the Bay of Bengal.

Multi-day naval and fishing communities have been advised to stay vigilant due to a low-pressure system expected to develop between November 11 and 15.
