Heavy downpours exceeding 100 mm are likely to lash several parts of the island today (07), the Department of Meteorology reported.
According to the weather forecast, these heavy showers will mainly affect parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Northwestern provinces, alongside the Galle and Matara districts.
Showers in other areas
Showers or thundershowers are also anticipated in several spots across the Northern, Eastern and Uva provinces.
For other regions of the country, rain or thundershowers are likely to develop after 1 p.m.
Warning on lightning and mist
The Met Department advised people to take necessary safety steps, warning of lightning and temporary strong winds that could strike during thundershowers.
Additionally, misty conditions were expected during early morning hours in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces.
