A tragic motor accident occurred on Thursday (07) afternoon in the Mahena area of Warakapola on the Colombo-Kandy main road. Police stated that two men and a woman died as a result of the crash.

Four others sustained injuries in the accident and were admitted to the Warakapola Hospital for immediate treatment, according to reports.

How the accident happened and legal action

A van travelling from Colombo towards Kandy had attempted to overtake another vehicle moving in front of it. It had then collided head-on with an SLTB bus travelling from Kandy towards Colombo.

The driver of the bus involved in the crash has been arrested by the police. It is further reported that the driver of the van was injured and is undergoing treatment in hospital.
