Police said that four out of six individuals who had gone for a bath in the Kele Dola stream in the Beveraliya area of Deniyaya were swept away and have gone missing. Four members of a group of youths who had travelled from Nugegoda and Kalubowila were swept away while bathing in the stream in Beveraliya.

It is suspected that they were carried away uncontrollably by a sudden, intense surge of rushing water caused by rainfall.

Slippers and clothing belonging to the missing youths were found nearby. Police stated that search operations have been launched in coordination with the military to locate the missing persons.
