Athula Kaluarachchi announced his decision to step down from the top post of the Mahara Pradeshiya Sabha and his ward seat via a social media post.

He clarified that this exit was not an abrupt choice. According to him, the move aligned with an agreement made with the party several years ago.

Prioritising Professional Work

Kaluarachchi explained that he aims to allocate more time and energy to reorganising his career and professional affairs, exactly as agreed with the party.

He stressed that stepping down does not mean ending his public service or abandoning his goals. He took on the role to fight family rule and build people-centred governance.

He also stated that following the historic milestone on September 21, 2024, the path is open for capable young leaders to take on larger responsibilities.

Gratitude to Supporters

Even though his titles change, Kaluarachchi noted that his dedication to the people who trusted him will not waver.

He thanked all those who supported and stood by him amid difficulties, remarking that political posts are fleeting while duty to the people lasts forever.
