A major funding proposal is heading to Parliament tomorrow (November 5). The Committee on Parliamentary Business met today under Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne and cleared Supplementary Estimate No. 8 of 2026 for debate and approval.
According to the Department of Communication of Parliament, the estimate requests Rs. 4,261 million (Rs. 4,261,000,000.00) from the Consolidated Fund or any other government fund. The entire allocation is planned for the Sri Lanka Air Force.
Why the UAV system is needed
The funds are designated to set up an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) system for the Air Force.
This project aims to tackle changing operational environments and new risks triggered by frequent bad weather across the disaster-vulnerable Bay of Bengal and nearby areas.
Other House business
Lawmakers are also scheduled to hold the Second Reading debate on the Trusts (Amendment) Bill tomorrow from 11:30 AM to 5:00 PM. This debate will go ahead as long as no challenge is filed in the Supreme Court under Article 121 of the Constitution.
The department added that no changes have been made to parliamentary proceedings set for Friday (November 6).
What happens next
Parliament will take up Supplementary Estimate No. 8 of 2026 for debate and approval tomorrow (November 5), alongside the Second Reading debate on the Trusts (Amendment) Bill from 11:30 AM to 5:00 PM if it is not challenged in the Supreme Court.
