An individual clad in robes holding a cobra-headed walking stick addressed the media near the United Nations office in Colombo. It is reported that he behaved in this manner after his claimed protest march from Kandy to Colombo was disrupted.
During the remarks, he used harsh language to denounce the President, with observers noting that his statements appeared to bring disrepute to the monastic robe.
Statement to the media
He stated that he had legitimately commenced the march without harming anyone, identifying himself as the chairman monk of a human rights organisation. He also claimed that he was not afraid even if he were murdered or arrested by the police.
Furthermore, he alleged that upon reaching the Kegalle area, he had to face protests, hooting, and verbal abuse, and was threatened even in the presence of police officers.
"I declare that I will not move an inch from here until action is taken regarding all these insults directed at me."
Appeal to the IGP
Accusing parties of paying money to assassinate his character on social media, the individual further asserted that he would not leave the premises until proper action is taken against the insults caused to him.
