A terrible accident occurred on Friday morning in eastern France involving a bus transporting schoolchildren. Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot confirmed that a 7-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy lost their lives in the tragedy. According to the prefecture in Ain, 16 individuals were injured, including three who were seriously hurt.
The regional authority operated the vehicle, which was ferrying about 15 students alongside other passengers at the time of the incident.
Off the Road and Into a Ditch
The crash took place in a rural area located northeast of Lyon. BFM TV reported that children heading to local middle and high schools were aboard. A picture taken at the site revealed that the vehicle veered off the roadway, crashed into trees, and ended up inside a ditch.
Speaking to broadcaster Franceinfo, Lent Mayor Yves Cristin mentioned that conditions were clear with no fog, though the road surface was a little wet, leaving officials puzzled over how the vehicle went off the path.
“It is always a difficult moment when our students, our children, are victims of an accident like this. My thoughts, and those of the government and the entire education community, are with the families,”Édouard Geffray
