A major trade facilitation effort came to life today (05) under the direction of the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development. The brand-new National Single Window for Trade system is now officially operational.
According to the ministry, exporters are being brought into the platform sector by sector as part of the initial phase.
Tea and coconut sectors step up first
The first phase specifically picked the coconut and tea sectors to test the waters. Selected private sector businesses took part in the go-live session and successfully generated the system's first-ever CusDec today.
The ministry expressed gratitude to everyone who helped bring the project together, including private sector participants, chamber representatives, government institutions, GovTech, and the Lanka Software Foundation.
What happens next
The system will be opened to other sectors in the near future after being further refined using findings from the go-live phase.
