In an unbelievable turn of events, a semi-final first leg in Brazil ended in total disarray. The Minas Gerais Under-20 Championship clash between Uberlandia and Mamore saw 43 players and eight coaching staff members sent off.
The staggering total of 51 dismissals shattered the previous world record of 36, which occurred during a 2011 fifth-division fixture between Club Atletico Claypole and Victoriano Arenas in Argentina.
Taunts, pitch invasion, and huge damage
According to the referee report, the trouble erupted in the second half when Mamore took a 3-1 lead. Davi of Mamore taunted the opposition bench while celebrating the goal.
That sparked an immediate reaction. Uberlandia goalkeeping coach Paulo Sergio Dias Dos Santos ran onto the pitch to confront Davi, triggering huge clashes across the ground. Three players had already seen red earlier in the match.
Local outlet O Tempo reported that military police arrived due to widespread destruction at the Parque do Sabia Stadium. A police report listed 14 broken doors, shattered windows, ruined showers, along with destroyed tables, chairs, and benches. Referee Fernando Patrick Drosghic Modesto paused the match for roughly 40 minutes before calling it off completely.
Uberlandia concede the return tie
Following the dismissals, Mamore were left with only seven players available. Uberlandia have now confirmed they are conceding the semi-final second leg.
They labelled the decision as a fair play gesture, which lets Mamore advance to the final while Uberlandia shift their attention to the third-place fixture.
What happens next
Mamore will progress to the final, while Uberlandia will focus on competing in the third-place match.
