The National United Teachers' Union disclosed several key details regarding Deputy Minister Mahinda Jayasinghe during a media briefing held yesterday. The union pointed out that he has not received a formal education from any university, college of education, or teachers' training college.
Key Points
- Allegations made that Mahinda Jayasinghe lacks a university, college of education, or teachers' college background.
- Claims made that he is merely a trainee English teacher appointed by Ranil Wickremesinghe.
- Accused of misleading the teaching fraternity by staging protests demanding a 6% allocation for education.
Appointment and trade union activities
The union stated that Ranil Wickremesinghe appointed Mahinda Jayasinghe as a trainee teacher as a solution to the shortage of English teachers.
It was noted that after receiving an appointment to a difficult school in the Kebithigollewa area, he later formed a trade union. The union alleged that he deceived the entire teaching community by holding protests and claiming 6% would be allocated for education once government power was secured.
The union further stressed that the entire teaching fraternity, comprising holders of diplomas, degrees, postgraduate degrees, and doctorates, was ultimately misled by the likes of Mahinda Jayasinghe.
