The Democratic Party's victory in securing control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives in the US midterm elections has been celebrated with festivities across the streets of Tehran. Iranian authorities described the outcome as a rejection of the war against Iran by the American people and a massive defeat for Donald Trump.

It is also reported that Trump himself admitted that the surge in fuel prices and the cost of living within the United States, sparked by US-Israeli military operations launched on February 28, 2026, contributed to the Republican defeat.

Key Points

  • Democrats secure control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives in the US midterm elections.
  • Iranian leaders claim Trump's defeat occurred through the will of God.
  • Iranian Parliament Speaker states the American public rejected the war against Iran.

How the victory was celebrated on the streets

These government-backed celebrations in Tehran were organised to coincide with the anniversary of the 1979 US embassy takeover. During the gatherings, American and Israeli flags were set on fire, alongside placards showing Trump behind bars, banners reading 'We will assassinate Trump', and portraits of Mojtaba Khamenei.

Addressing a rally on November 4, Tehran Mayor Alireza Zakani stated that by the grace of God, America has been defeated, and through the blessings of the Prophet's household, Israel has fallen. Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei remarked that Trump has lost both the war and the political battle.

"Whether out of conscience or due to the cost of living, Americans have said 'no' to war, and we endorse that message."

Supreme Leader's cautious stance

Meanwhile, Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei stated that one cannot expect a shift in American hostility simply because one party replaces another. Nevertheless, Iranian authorities reportedly remain wary of whether Trump might resort to hasty military action in response to his electoral defeat.
