In his festive greetings to the Hindu community, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake highlighted Deepavali as a powerful symbol of light defeating darkness and good overcoming evil.

He stated that the celebration commemorates the victory of Lord Krishna over the demon Narakasura, with devotees hoping for righteousness to win over unrighteousness.

Beyond lighting oil lamps

The President pointed out that the true significance of the festival goes further than lighting lamps at home. According to him, the festival calls on people to spark love, compassion, brotherhood and humanity inside their hearts.

He urged everyone to use this chance to build a kinder society, picking kindness over hatred and coexistence over division.

“The true meaning of Deepavali extends beyond illuminating homes with the light of oil lamps. It lies in kindling the light of love, compassion, brotherhood and humanity in the hearts of people.”President Anura Kumara Dissanayake
