A Hong Kong court has sentenced well-known democracy activist Joshua Wong, aged 30, to 10 years behind bars. The ruling was issued on Thursday on a charge of collusion with foreign entities under the city's national security law.

The Allegations

Wong faced accusations of conspiring in 2020 alongside self-exiled activist Nathan Law and other individuals. The plan reportedly involved calling upon overseas nations, institutions, organisations, or individuals outside China to launch sanctions or blockades against the governments of Hong Kong and China, as well as participate in other hostile acts.

The former frontline figure of the democracy movement had already entered a guilty plea to the charge in September.
