The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) will host its inaugural Board Leader Ready Symposium in Colombo on Saturday (07). The full-day event brings together top minds across the legal, financial, corporate and governance sectors.

The programme aims to train both existing and aspiring board directors on the tough challenges of boardroom leadership. Participants will explore corporate governance, legal duties, financial oversight and long-term sustainable growth.

Top Speakers and Core Themes

Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka Chairman, Senior Professor D.B.P.H. Dissabandara, is scheduled to deliver the keynote speech. The day will feature four thematic panels handled by leading figures from regulatory, legal, corporate and financial fields.

Organisers noted that true boardroom success demands more than just basic professional experience. Directors need independent judgement, strategic thinking and strong oversight of management.

Looking Beyond Courtrooms

BASL President Rajeev Amarasuriya said this initiative offers a prime opportunity for legal practitioners to look beyond traditional courtroom practice. He explained that lawyers can make vital contributions to high-level corporate strategy.

He also stressed the need to push young professionals and women into top board roles, aiming to develop a diverse, capable and responsible set of corporate leaders.
